A Journey into Old Shanghai and Beyond
Hengdian World Circus City recreates the cityscape of Shanghai in the 1930s and 1940s, capturing the architectural character and cosmopolitan atmosphere of the historic waterfront. The scenic area features recreations of landmark buildings such as the Peace Hotel, the HSBC Building and the Customs House. Its waterfront architecture and period streetscapes bring together the distinctive styles of old Shanghai, providing an evocative setting for film and television production and sightseeing.

Guangzhou Street & Hong Kong Street was originally built in 1996 for director Xie Jin’s film The Opium War, marking the beginning of Hengdian World Studios. Guangzhou Street features traditional Lingnan architecture, historic streets and period buildings that recreate the atmosphere of old Guangzhou. Hong Kong Street presents a contrasting cityscape with Western-style façades and streets inspired by historic Hong Kong. Together, the two areas combine film and television settings with the architectural and cultural character of these cities.
